Making Amends – Truly Owning Choices Made That Hurt Oneself of Others

Part of every 12-Step program is the process by which one not only admits that they’ve harmed people and become willing to make amends, but that they actually make amends to those people whereever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

This is such an important practice not only in the recovery field but also in the spiritual field. To own our mistakes and how they’ve harmed others becomes a strength that grows integrity and accountability. It grows humility and vulnerability – in a good way.

To make amends directly to the individual who was harmed by your actions wherever possible, except when to do so would injure yourself or others, brings a greater sense of harmony and serenity to your human spirit. It heals both individuals in ways we don’t quite understand but come to accept as part of the practice.
